Boys at Upton enjoy an engaging, fun, safe and fulfilling learning experience. They have an array of sporting opportunities including rugby, swimming, football, cricket, cross-country, hockey and more!

Building on the success of our co-ed Early Years and Pre-Prep departments, Upton has become fully co-ed with our boys staying with us until they are 11 years old. Boys and girls are educated together in a fully co‑educational provision.

We want our pupils to achieve a great deal academically and we also have many other things to offer. This is demonstrated in our scholarships having achieved so many in academic, art, music, swimming and sport. Unlike other schools, Upton conducts LAMDA exams from Form 1 with an outstanding 100% pass rate, 70% achieving Distinction. In addition, 78% of pupils learn an instrument. We have an orchestra, ensembles, junior, middle and senior choirs. These creative platforms encourage our boys to perform confidently in front of audiences, to express themselves creatively and be disciplined at their individual pace. Upton also offers Music Technology from Year 1 giving our children the opportunity to create and compose music with bands or even entire orchestras without a musical background.

Our head of sport Mr James Phillips leads our rugby and Football.

The PE lessons are practical, fun and inclusive and Upton is highly competitive and consistently perform well in the weekly fixtures and tournaments. Upton participates in an annual sports tour and competes in IAPS competitions in swimming and hockey (invitation only squad). The football team is led by an FA qualified coach and the cricket teams will also compete against other schools.

We have expanded our incredible sports facilities into Windsor Great Park at The York Club - Upton House’ official home ground where we host training sessions, competitive fixtures, tournaments and family events, providing endless space for our boys to enjoy.

Personalised preparation for secondary schools

Boys sit for assessments while at Upton and will have access to personalised programs focusing on strategic study skills to help them prepare for the senior school of their choice.

Our boys follow a very similar senior school path to our girls and sit assessments for senior school while at Upton. Although we are not selective at entry level, we are an academic school and have high expectations for each child. We thoroughly prepare our boys for entry into the top independent schools with whom we already have established relationships including, Eton, Harrow, Charterhouse, Wellington, St George’s College Weybridge, Hampton Boys, Oundle and more. With options for entry into Year 7 in single sex and co-ed settings, our boys can transfer seamlessly following their time here at Upton. For those who wish to board, we have partnerships with senior schools allowing time to explore boarding as an option before making such a step.

The importance of wellbeing

Wellbeing plays a key role in Upton House. We have weekly wellbeing lessons and assemblies which teach our pupils variety of mindful activities. Pupils’ form teachers look after their social and personal development and help deliver the PSHE and RSE curriculum alongside a specialist teacher. All of our staff nurture, support and encourage our children, helping them to develop the confidence to embrace new opportunities, making links in their learning and become curious about the world around them, which is at the very heart of how our pupils learn. Our well-balanced curriculum opens their intellectual curiosities and encourages pupils to step out of their comfort zones and take risks. This enables our pupils to leave Upton inspired, motivated, and ready for a journey of lifelong learning. Academic achievements, scholarships and sporting trophies are outstanding, but giving our children the tools to manage their mental health and wellbeing is lifesaving.
