Sport is integral to life at Upton and we are committed to providing a broad, enriching and enjoyable curriculum that engages children across a variety of sports. We continually employ the best sports staff to sustain the highest level of teaching possible.
Upton’s values focus on sportsmanship – team spirit is crucial to all sports, learning to respect opponents and embracing the values of fair play. Upton provides children with the opportunity for healthy competition, learning to participate in fixtures in a sporting manner, understanding that winning and losing is part of sport and is crucial for their growth as children. Upton also values the enjoyment and benefits to individuals personal development that sport can bring.
Our comprehensive programme of sports allows every child to navigate their own route in their sporting development, either finding a sport that they excel in or simply trying multiple sports to nurture their talent.

Each week children from Transition to Form 6 receive a minimum of 1.5 hours of PE lessons complimented by a further minimum of 1 hour games afternoon for Pre-Prep and an additional 1.5 hours of training or fixtures for Prep children. Little Upton Nursery receive 1 hour of PE per week. PE lessons provide the opportunity for skill development and learning techniques while training/fixtures provide the game-based elements of sport, either in-house or externally. The PE lessons are practical, fun and inclusive and Upton is highly competitive and consistently performs well. Upton fosters a culture of confidence and competence in physical literacy throughout all PE lessons. Through bespoke movement lessons children will learn the fundamentals of moving properly to underpin all further sporting endeavours. Promoting well-being through leading healthy lifestyles.

Curriculum and Timetabling

Sport plays an integral part to life at Upton and we value the importance of keeping pupils fit and healthy. Every day our children have the opportunity to take part in a PE activity led by specialist teachers or coaches and each year group has a dedicated afternoon games lesson at the York Club (Windsor Great Park) for various sporting events and fixtures against other schools. Upton operates a “sport for all” philosophy where every child has the opportunity to represent the school in fixtures, while still displaying a winning mentality and providing opportunities for stretch and challenge for those more able.
In addition to inter-house competitions in netball, football and cricket, we play fixtures against other schools in all of these sports. Upton also takes part in numerous swim galas, biathlons and cross-country events. We stream our sports day events from York club to parents not able to join and close family and friends.
Dance is also very important at Upton. We are delighted to have Megan Rhodes as our Head of Dance. Megan is a qualified teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance and acrobatic Arts where she regularly enters students for their examinations with successful 100% pass rate
